Cattle Tet gifts presented to the poor in Bac Kan province

The Vietnam Red Cross (VRC) has commenced its efforts to deliver 1 million gifts to low-income individuals nationwide in anticipation of Tet (Lunar New Year holiday) in Dia Linh commune of Ba Be district, in the northern mountainous province of Bac Kan.

Impoverishedhouseholds in Na Cay village were presented with five breeding cows fromthe VRC-initiated “Cow Bank” project, designed to provide sustainableincome and food security to Vietnamese poor, as well as 100 giftpackages donated by Buddhist followers.

Raising cows provides along-term mean of livelihood, said Chairman of the Bac Kan provincialRed Cross Nguyen Van Cuong, adding that the beneficiaries have receivedtraining in adequately caring for their cattle.

Dia Linh is hometo more than 800 households with 3,700 residents. About 29 percent ofthe families here are poor or nearly poor, making the commune one of themost impoverished in Bac Kan.-VNA

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.
