Hanoi (VNA) – Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Hong Xiaoyong held a reception inHanoi on June 29 to mark the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to China(July 1, 1997). 

Addressingthe ceremony, Pham Minh Chinh, Politburo member and head of the Party CentralCommittee’s Organisation Commission, stressed that the return of Hong Kong toChina is of historical significance to the Chinese Party, Government andpeople. 

TheParty, State and people of Vietnam congratulate Hong Kong on its greatsocio-economic achievements over the past two decades and wish the Hong KongSpecial Administrative Region more attainments, contributing to completing thegoal of turning China into a modern socialist country, the official said. 

 Chinh affirmed that the Vietnamese Party,State and people attach importance to enhancing the traditional friendship withChina and wish to join hands with the Chinese Party, State and people topromote the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the twocountries in a stable and sustainable manner.

He expressed his belief that the mutuallybeneficial cooperation between Vietnamese localities and Hong Kong will furtheradvance, contributing to the development of the Vietnam-China neighbourlyfriendship and comprehensive cooperation.

Ambassador Hong Xiaoyong said Hong Kong’s returnto China under the “one country, two systems” formula has significantlycontributed to global peace, development and progress. 

The ambassador highlighted remarkable outcomesin the cooperation between the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Chinaand Vietnam over the past time, and expressed his hope that the cooperationwill be further deepened, bringing pragmatic interests to both sides.-VNA
