Chinese firms interested in purchasing bulk Vietnamese farm produce

China consumes a major volume of farm produce from Vietnam and theMekong Delta in particular, especially fruit. However, most transactionsare made cross-border putting Vietnamese farmers at risk, includingprice loss and contract violations.

For the Chineseside, imported farm produce through cross-border channels have failedto meet Global GAP or origin certifications, leading to hesitantconsumers.

To address the problem, Miao urgedmunicipal authorities to facilitate Chinese investment in the locality,making it easier for the two sides to sign high-value trade contractsvia formal channels.

Chairman of the municipalPeople’s Committee Le Hung Dung said there are only three Chinesebusinesses operating in Can Tho, a modest figure compared to bilateraleconomic potentials.

Besides farm produce, he also proposed cooperation in garment and transport infrastructure.
