Chinese internet swindlers arrested in Lao Cai province

Police of the northern province of Lao Cai have handed over 10 Chinese nationals accused of online swindling to police of Hekou county, China’s Yunnan province.

LaoCai (VNA) – Police of the northern province of Lao Cai have handedover 10 Chinese nationals accused of online swindling to police of Hekoucounty, China’s Yunnan province.

On December 5, Lao Cai police detained two womenand eight men of Chinese nationality, aged between 23 and 39, on suspicion ofswindling in Bac Cuong ward of Lao Cai city.

Police said the suspects rented rooms in Bac Cuongward and used Chinese SIM cards to sell the chemical methanol online via thelocal wifi network. They required their buyers to send money into theiraccounts first, saying they had to pay taxes or storage costs, and then cut offall contact.

They were found to have connections with a ring accusedof 200 online methanol swindling cases in 12 provinces and cities of China.

Hekou police worked with their peers of Qingyuncounty in China’s Shandong province to investigate the ring. They asked for LaoCai police’s coordination to arrest the gang in Vietnam.-VNA
