Cho Ray Hospital takes care of foreign patients

More than 1,200 foreign patients have received medical care and treatment at Cho Ray Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City’s largest, since the beginning of this year, according to the hospital’s statistics.

One-fourth of those patients came from developed countries like the United States, Japan, France, and Australia.

Dale Edwards Washington, a 56-year-old American living in Ho Chi MinhCity, underwent an operation at Cho Ray Hospital this June for anAchilles tendon rupture. Six months after, he can now walk normally.

After a regular check at the hospital on December 11,he said he had doctors in the US examine the surgical wound, who saidthe operation was well done.

Washington added thathe paid only 1,000 USD for the operation and following treatment, whilethe costs for similar treatment would be at least 15,000 USD in the USor 50,000 USD in Singapore.

Nguyen Huu Chuc, headof the hospital’s Eye Department, said that in recent years, manytourists took advantage of their trips to Vietnam to have cataract orLasik eye operations, which have the same quality as those conductedoverseas but at much lower expenses.

The hospitalcan also perform advanced medical procedures like heart surgery orstenting. Most recently, a Japanese patient received a stentimplantation in an emergency. He has now recovered and in stable healthconditions.-VNA
