Code of conduct written to keep civil servants in line

In a bid to improve the behaviour of civil servants and ensure professionalism and transparency while performing their duties, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has completed a code of conduct for civil servants.

Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - In a bid to improve the behaviour of civil servants and ensureprofessionalism and transparency while performing their duties, the Ministry ofHome Affairs (MoHA) has completed a code of conduct for civil servants.

Le Anh Tuan, Deputy Director of the MoHA’s Institute for State OrganisationalSciences, said at a press conference on January 9 in Hanoi that the MoHA wouldsoon hold a meeting on the implementation of the code of conduct.

According to Tuan, there have been regulations relating to the code of conductfor civil servants. For example, the Law on Cadres and Civil Servants mentionedsome rules that civil servants were expected to follow but the code of conductwritten by the ministry consists of a set of rules that outline socialstandards, responsibilities and proper practices for all civil servants andpublic employees.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has assigned ministries, agencies and localitiesto strictly supervise the implementation of the code of conduct, he said.

Under the code of conduct for civil servants, which has been approved by thePrime Minister, civil servants should be devoted to their duties and be willingto exercise a function assigned by the their employers.

It was necessary for them to be courteous and professional when in contact withthe public.

Civil servants should follow the direction of their leaders and be ready tocoordinate with their colleagues in performing duties.

They are supposed to dress neatly while exercising civil service. Their clothesneed to be suitable for their work and the country’s customs and traditions.-VNS/VNA
