Cold spell to blanket northern Vietnam this week

A cold wave is forecast to hit the northern and north-central regions on February 13 night and the following day, with temperatures ranging from 14-17 degrees Celsius.

Hanoi (VNA) – A cold wave is forecastto hit the northern and north-central regions on February 13 night and the followingday, with temperatures ranging from 14-17 degrees Celsius.

Nguyen Van Huong, head of the weather forecastdivision under the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said temperaturesin northern mountainous localities will drop to 10-13 degrees, even 8 degreesin some places.

The regions will see light rains from February 18-22.Nighttime temperatures will drop further on February 19.

Over the past days, unseasonal rains hit southernlocalities, affecting production as well as travelling of local residents, andthey are forecast to continue in the coming days.  

The centre said the cold fronts in Februaryand March will cause waves as high as 3-5m in the sea from the north to the south./.

Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sensing to moജnitor seawater quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.

Vietnam ramps up plast🥃ic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public.
