Can Tho (VNA) – The Party Committee of theMekong Delta city of Can Tho held a conference on September 24 reviewing the 2011-2017implementation of Resolution No.05 on the development of Ninh Kieu districtinto a metropolis.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the municipal People’sCommittee Vo Thanh Thong lauded the city’s political system and Ninh Kieudistrict for gradually turning Ninh Kieu into a political, trade, tourism,service, culture, and education hub of the city.

Thong suggested that the district build synchronous andmodern urban transportation infrastructure, as well as improve its services andtrade towards making it a safe urban area with a healthy cultural lifestyle.

Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Tran Quoc Trungasked for raising public awareness of the role of Ninh Kieu district in the developmentprocess, pooling resources for socio-economic infrastructure, and tapping intothe district’s full potential.

While devising a master plan, he suggested that Ninh Kieushould step up its fields of strength with high added-value, such as services,trade, finance, credit, telecommunications, transportation, and insurance.

Further attention should be paid to social welfare,environmental protection, and local livelihood improvement, he said, addingthat Ninh Kieu must continue accelerating administrative reform in many fields,build a qualified workforce to meet development demands in a new context, fightcorruption and wastefulness, and create a favourable business environment.

According to Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ninh Kieudistrict Duong Tan Hien, trade-service-tourism now accounts for 70.42 percentof the local economy, followed by industry-construction and handicrafts withover 29 percent.

The rate of poor households was also reduced to 0.7 percentin late 2017.–VNA

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.
