Contest to help raise public awareness of resilience

Hanoi (VNA) - A contest for making infographic and video clips, and translatingthe “Resilience” term into Vietnamese was launched at a press conference heldby the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) Central Committee and the French Development Agency (AFD) inHanoi on August 22.

As part of the activities to celebrate the 45th anniversary of theVietnam-France diplomatic ties, the competition aims to raise Vietnamese youths’awareness of the impact of environmental and social changes in Vietnam, thuscalling for the community’s joint effort in overcoming the environmentalconsequences and promoting sustainable development.

The contest is available for individuals or teams with a maximum of five personswho have the Vietnamese nationality and are under 35 years old.

Entries should be submitted to the organising board via the email: cuocthiresilience@gmail.com from August 27-October 14. Those that meet the set requirements will be postedat www:resilience.doanthanhnien.vn and the fanpage //facebook.com/cuocthiresilience2018.

The entries will be graded basing on the number of like and share in thefanpage, and the assessment from the contest’s examiners. The awarding ceremonyof the contest will be held in Hanoi in November.

The contest is expected to raise public awareness of impacts and ways to dealwith social issues in Vietnam, especially pressures related to environmentalpollution, climate change or consequences of rapid economic growth andurbanization.

Directorof AFD Fabrice Richy said the improvement of youths’ awareness of great socialchallenges, especially those related to resilience and development, will be oneof the important factors to help increase the efficiency of new sustainabledevelopment models in the future.

According to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent, resilience is “the ability of individuals,communities, organizations or countries exposed to disasters and crises andunderlying vulnerabilities to anticipate, reduce the impact of, cope with, andrecover from the effects of shocks and stresses without compromising theirlong-term prospects”.-VNA
