Cooperative ties between Vietnam, China academies praised

Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam spoke highly of cooperativeties between the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) and theChinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) over the past two decades during a receptionin Hanoi on April 28 for CAS President Bai Chunli.
Since1995, the two academies have conducted exchanges to share scientific experienceand signed 19 memoranda of understanding on cooperation in biodiversity, protectionof plant ecosystem, environment, energy, among others, Dam said.
Heasked VAST and CAS to further step up cooperation in various fields, such as exchangeof students, training young scientists and holding seminars and conferences to announcethe results of natural science studies.
Thetwo sides should accelerate joint researches on materials, space technology,biodiversity, preservation of biologically-active compounds, geology, marinegeophysics, in addition to promptly building labs for joint studies andestablishing an environment monitoring network.
Prof.Bai, who is also President of the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), promised toenhance coordination in scientific research with VAST, adding that a studyproject on sediments of the Holocene period in Vietnam’s Red River Delta andChina’s Yangtze River Delta is underway.
Baisaid that TWAS is a global science organisation established in 1985 in Trieste,Italy, representing nearly 130 academies worldwide, including VAST. Each year, TWASholds a plenary session gathering the world’s leading scientists and sciencemanagers, including science ministers and representatives from scienceacademies as well as scientific research and training establishments from allparts of the globe.-VNA
