Havana (VNA) – The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) on April 29 held a ceremony to celebrate Vietnam’s 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - 2025) at the Palace of the Revolution in Havana.

Speaking at the event, Secretary of the PCC’s Central Committee and Head of its Economic – Productive Department Jorge Luis Broche Lorenzo, on behalf of the Party, State and people of Cuba, extended congratulations to the Party, State and people of Vietnam on the anniversary.

He described April 30, 1975 as one of the great events of the 20th century and a typical example of resilience, struggle and victory for all peoples in the world.

The day symbolises the strength of the collective will and aspiration of the Vietnamese people for a free, sovereign and prosperous Fatherland, he said.

Jorge Luis affirmed that Cuba especially values the deep friendship with Vietnam, saying the comprehensiveness and depth of the relationship between the two Parties is the cornerstone of bilateral relations, demonstrated in cooperation in the fields of agriculture, construction, pharmaceuticals, health, and education, and collaboration between agencies and social organisations of the two countries.

For his part, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Le Quang Long highlighted the valuable support from international friends, especially socialist countries, including Cuba, citing President Fidel Castro’s immortal saying "For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to shed its own blood".

This important spiritual and material support contributed significantly to the final victory of the resistance war, the diplomat said.

Long expressed his belief that Vietnam and Cuba will continue to cooperate and share experiences in the process of reform, updating socio-economic development models, overcoming difficulties and challenges, and building a bright and prosperous future for their people.

Debora Santana, a member of the Puerto Rico delegation, said that Vietnam’s April 30 victory is great.
There have been many struggles against imperialism, but Vietnam achieved a historic triumph that inspired hope for revolutionary movements around the world, she said./.
