Da Nang women helped improve anti-violence skills

Representatives of the Women’s Union chapters in central Da Nangcity are attending a training course that will equip them with skills tomobilise the community’s support in curbing violence against femalesand girls.   The course is teaching learners how to efficientlyutilise SASA!, an effective model specially designed for preventingviolence against women and HIV infection via the engagement of peopleacross all levels of society. During their learning journey,participants will share personal experiences, discuss topics as well asproposing possible measures to deal with the pressing issue that hascaused serious consequences globally.
Teacher of the course,Robyn Yaker from the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and theEmpowerment of Women (UN Women), said the training aims at buildingcapacity for learners to adapt SASA! model in their community, thus,spurring local-level activism and social mobilisation. The UN Women will join hands with Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries to eradicate domestic abuse, she added.
The 3-day event, co-organised by the municipal women’s union, the UNWomen and Spanish-based non-governmental organisation PyD, started onDecember 23, seeing the attendance of observers from Laos. Itwill set part of the human-resources-building basis for a UN Women’s2013 - 2015 programme, which focuses on advancing the implementation oflaws and provision of services to women experiencing violence in Asiaand the Pacific, particular in Southeast Asia.-VNA
