Dak Nong defuses 200kg bomb

The military high command in the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong, on January 4, defused a 226kg bomb unearthed in the local Dak Song district.

– The militaryhigh command in the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong, on January 4,defused a 226kg bomb unearthed in the local Dak Song district.

The MK82 bomb is 1.67m in length and 29cmin diameter. It contains 87 kg of explosive substance, with detonation diameterspanning 600 metres.

Three shells were also found in the samearea with the bomb by local farmers who dug holes to plant pepper trees.

Dak Nong is located in the south of theCentral Highlands and houses the key road connecting the region with thesoutheast region. Once a warzone, the province has been tackling unexploded bombs for many years.

Duringthe war, the US army dropped more bombs on Vietnam than were deployed in theFirst and Second World Wars combined, according to the US organisation ClearPath International.

It isestimated that about 30 percent of the bombs remain unexploded. -VNA
