Hanoi (VNA) – The Government of Vietnam has always attached greatimportance to the population work, considering it as a key factor to the nation’sdevelopment, said Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Dinh Quy.
Quymade the affirmation at a reception in Hanoi on December 1 for Natalia Kanem,UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the UN PopulationFund (UNFPA), and UNFPA Asia Pacific Regional Director BjornAnderson, who have been in Vietnam to attend the 9th Asia Pacific Conferenceon Reproductive and Sexual Health and Rights (APCRSHR).
Helauded the UNFPA’s role, saying that the agency has helped Vietnam solve itssocial issues and poverty reduction, implement the UN Millennium Development Goals,train personnel, and work out policies on population, thus contributing to thecountry’s socio-economic achievements and improving people’s living conditions.
Thedeputy minister suggested the UN and theUNFPA in particular continue advising Vietnam on socio-economic developmentpolicies, including population issues, building the Population Law, dealingwith population aging challenges and gender imbalance at birth, and providing official development assistance(ODA) capital for Vietnam to implement their joint cooperation programmes from2017-2021.
Vietnamis willing to work with the UNFPA to push the organisation’s priorities at theUN forum and implement population and sustainable development goals and otherinternational commitments.
Kanemexpressed her impression about significant socio-economic achievements Vietnamhas made over the past 30 years of Doi Moi (Reform).
Vietnamis a typical example in completing most of the MDGs and implementing the One UNInitiative in Vietnam, she said.
TheUN official spoke highly of the country’s commitment to the implementation of theAgenda 2030 for Sustainable Development.
TheUNFPA will continue assisting Vietnam in carrying out population policies andpromoting gender equality and women empowerment, thus contributing the nation’sdevelopment, she pledged.-VNA

During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
