Deputy PM calls for more children wearing helmets

Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh on September 27 urged relevant agencies to put an end to actions that violate traffic regulations and pose risks to children and called on people in general and children in particular to strictly follow traffic rules, especially wearing helmets.

HCM City (VNA) – ⛎Deputy PrimeMinister Truong Hoa Binh on September 27 urged relevant agencies to put an endto actions that violate traffic regulations and pose risks to children andcalled on people in general and children in particular to strictly follow traffic rules, especially wearing helmets.

He made the call during a walk aiming toraise the percentage of children wearing helmets when riding motorcycles and similar vehicles jointly held in HCM City on September 27 by the National TrafficSafety Committee and the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET). Also Chairman of the National TrafficSafety Committee, Deputy PM Binh affirmed that providing care and education for childrenand young people are a duty of all people. Making sure that children properlywear helmets demonstrates commitment to protecting lives and health care forthe country’s future generations and preventing losses triggered by trafficaccidents. He underlined that efforts have been made overthe years to raise the rate. Of note, a programme arranged by the trafficsafety committee and the MoET on presenting helmets for first graders hashelped raised the figure to about 70 percent, which is expected to stand at 80 percent bythe end of this year. Chairman of the HCM City People’s CommitteeNguyen Thanh Phong said that the city will bolster communications on wearinghelmets when riding motorbikes and dissemination of traffic regulations inschools. According to the National Traffic SafetyCommittee, the death toll from traffic accidents declined to over 8,200 in 2018from nearly 12,000 recorded six years earlier./.
