Deputy PM underlines environmental safety at alumina plant

– Environmental protection and community health must be givenpriority during the operation of the Nhan Co alumina plant in the CentralHighland province of Dak Nong, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung said.

Dung madethe request at a working visit on January 12 to the plant, the country’s first aluminaproduction project, which is invested by the Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited(Vinacomin).

The Governmentleader commended Vinacomin on selecting advanced technology for both productionand waste treatment for the plant.

He notedthat the plant has contributed significantly to economic growth in the CentralHighlands in general and Dak Nong in particular, creating jobs for localresidents.

With atotal investment surpassing 16.8 trillion VND (739.2 million USD), the Nhan Coproject consists of the Nhan Co alumina plant and bauxite mining, with acapacity of approximately 650,000 tonnes of alumina annually.

The Nhan Coplant is now in trial run and is scheduled to be handed over to Vinacominwithin the first quarter of 2017.

As ofJanuary 11, it produced 67.301 tonnes of hydrate and 21,828 tonnes of alumina intotal.

The plantshipped 100 tonnes of hydrate to the Republic of Korea in December 2016 andanother 100 tonnes to Japan in early January.-VNA
