Speaking at the seminar, Russian military experts agreed that theDien Bien Phu victory was the result of Vietnamese soldiers’ andpeople’s arduous struggle against French forces at a very challengingtime for the newly independent country.

Participants also noted that the victory was the perfect combination ofmodern military strategy and decisive guerilla tactics. The victorydirectly led to the signing of the Geneva Agreement on ending the war.It brought an end to French colonialism in Vietnam, and restored peacein Indochina .

Vietnamese Ambassador to RussiaPham Xuan Son said despite happening in different timelines, thevictories of the Vietnamese and Soviet Union had a very close linkthat is a continuation of the history of the heroism of the two peoples.

The triumph of the Soviet people in the GreatPatriotic War was also a positive factor encouraging revolutionarymovements in the world in general as well as in Vietnam , Son said.

He affirmed that Vietnamese people are alwaysgrateful to the Soviet Union for its tremendous support in Vietnam ’sstruggle for liberation and its national construction.-VNA
