People nationwide areoffering more material and spiritual support for compatriots in the centralregion ravaged recently by storms and flooding.

The HCM City chapter of the Vietnam BuddhistSangha held a pray ceremony on November 3 to share losses facing people incentral Vietnam.

Participating Buddhists donated 5 billion VND(about 215,000 USD) and handed over the aid to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committeeof District 12.

Over recent days, the local chapter of theVietnam Buddhist Sangha and followers have engaged in a number of activities tohelp those affected, including trips to central provinces to present relief.

In the central province of Thanh Hoa, the VFFCommittee has received nearly 12 billion VND from local agencies and localitiesfor flood victims in the two weeks since a fund-raising campaign was launched,Standing Vice President of the committee Ha Van Thuy said on November 4.

He said provincial authorities have sentdelegations to flood-hit provinces to deliver sympathy and aid, including 2billion VND for Quang Nam and 500 million VND for Nghe An.

The Thanh Hoa VFF Committee has receivedconsiderable donations from local organisations and businesses, Thuy noted,adding that it is still calling for more help.

Meanwhile, an exhibition of nearly 60 graphic artworks opened at the Fine ArtsMuseum of Da Nang on November 3, with all funds collected from selling pieces tobe donated to flood victims.

Featuring artworks made from materials such as zinc,wood, and stone by artists nationwide, the exhibition will be open to November25.
