Distance education conference opens in Hanoi

The 24 th Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) annual conference opened in Hanoi for the first time, on October 27.

Attending the event were Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan, DeputyMinister of Education and Training Bui Van Ga, representatives of 70distance education universities from 45 AAOU member countries andterritories, international organisations in Asia and members of the AAOUacross the world.

At the ceremony, Deputy PM NguyenThien Nhan spoke highly of the AAOU’s role in offering studyopportunities for the people. He affirmed that open and distanceeducation contributed to building a lifelong study-oriented society foreveryone and had become an integral part of the national educationsystem.

With the theme “Open distance learning towardsbuilding sustainable global learning communities”, the event will focuson ideology and philosophy, partnership and communication, methodologyand technology, sustainability, access, equity and quality,opportunities and challenges.

About 200 reports fromexperts discussed the building of a sustainable study community and itschallenges, cooperation among colleges and universities in sharingmaterials and e-learning equipment, and government subsidies fordistance education.

“I Love My Country” media campaign launched

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
