Hanoi (VNA) – The National Assembly will spend the whole day on October 23to discuss the draft revised Labour Code.

Thisis the last time the law is tabled for discussion before the NA vote on it onNovember 20, according to the working programme of the 8th sessionof the legislature.

Thedraft revised Labour Code presented to the NA today has been amended based onopinions expressed at the NA’s 7th session and the 36th and 37th meetings of the NA Standing Committee.

Majoramendments have been made regarding the scope and subjects of the law, themaximum overtime hours, retirement age, the organisations representinglabourers at the grassroots level, normal working hours, the settlement of labourdisputes, and strikes.

Thedraft code has, for the first time ever, legalise the role of representing andprotecting the legal rights and interests, and participating in the building oflabour relations of the Vietnam Chamber of Industry and Trade, the VietnamFarmers’ Union and other representative organisations.

Thedraft has also extend employers’ right to unilaterally end working contracts./.
