The tunnel road, from Phu Yen province's Hao Son commune to Khanh Hoaprovince's Co Ma commune, will be 13.4km long. The maximum speed forvehicles travelling along the route will be 80kph.
The project has total investment capital of VND15.6 trillion (748 million USD).
At the ceremony to mark the start of construction work, NationalAssembly Vice Chairman Huynh Ngoc Son said that the Deo Ca InvestmentJoint Stock Company, as the project's investor, was required to completethe tunnel by 2016.
On completion, the tunnel route isexpected to reduce traffic accidents on National Highway 1A andcontribute to the development of large economic centres, industrialzones and tourism sites in the central region.
The workwill also contribute to socio-economic development and better ensuresecurity in the central and Central Highlands region.-VNA
