Hanoi (VNA) – ෴Hanoi’s drug crime investigation division (PC47) has launchedinvestigation into a case of drugs smuggled from the UK to Hanoi viainternational postal service.
Authorities on June 19 discovered methamphetamine drugs hidden in aparcel sent from the UK to Vietnam. Officers of the Hanoi Customs Department, the Anti-SmugglingInvestigation Department under the General Department of Vietnam Customs, HanoiPolice and relevant agencies checked the parcel after finding suspicion. They discovered a nylon bag containing 102 pills inside the parcel,which had been declared as electrical components and switches. After the verification by the Criminal Science Institute under theMinistry of Public Security, the pills were identified as MethyleneDioxyn-Methamphet Amine (MDMA). The parcel was sent to a recipient on Hanoi’s Hoang Hoa Tham street,while the sender remained anonymous. The exhibits were then handed over to the police for furtherinvestigation. Earlier, a parcel with methamphetamine drugs inside transported from theNetherlands to Vietnam was discovered on June 13. Two boxes were placed inside the parcel sent from the Netherlands toHanoi via express mail service (EMS), which contained 515 pills, weighing 222grammes. The pills were identified as ecstasy, scientifically known as MDMA. On April 20, the agencies also seized about 9.35 kilogrammes ofmethamphetamine drugs when checking a parcel from Belgium to Vietnam via EMS.It was the largest amount of drugs smuggling into Hanoi by this service.-VNA
