Paris (VNA) – TheEmbassy of Vietnam in France on April 27 hosted a ceremony to pay tribute toHung Kings – the legendary founders of the country.
Ambassador to France Dinh Toan Thang and staff of the embaওssy and Vietnameserepresentative offices in the European country offered incense🐼 in memory of the Hung Kingsand late President Ho Chi Minh.
According to the diplomat,2023 is a year with many important milestones, including the commemoration ofthe 50th anniversary of the Paris Agreement on ending the war and restoringpeace in Vietnam, the 50th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and France and the 10th anniversary of their strategic partnership.
The year also witnesses the start of a new phass of cooperation with bilateral andmultilateral partners of Vietnam, namely the United Nations Educational, Scientificand Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), the InternationalOrganisation of La Francophonie (OIF) and Organisation forEconomic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Thang noted.
He said Vietnamese representative offices in France will continue to uphold patriotism,self-reliance, and solidarity to fulfill tasks assigned by the Party and State.
Legend has it that Lac Long Quan (real name Sung Lam, son of Kinh Duong Vuongand Than Long Nu) married Au Co (the fairy daughter of De Lai). Au Co then gavebirth to a pouch filled with one hundred eggs, which hatched into a hundredsons. However, soon thereafter, Lac Long Quan and Au Co separated. Lac LongQuan went to the coast with 50 children, while Au Co went to the highlands withthe rest.
Their eldest son was made king, who named the country Van Lang and set up thecapital in Phong Chau (modern-day Viet Tri city in Phu Tho province),beginning the 18 reigns of the Hung Kings.
The kings chose Nghia Linh Mountain, the highest in the region, to performrituals devoted to rice and sun deities to pray for bumper crops.
To honour their great contributions, a complex of temples dedicated to them wasbuilt on Nghia Linh Mountain, and the 10th day of the third lunar month servesas the national commemorative anniversary for the kings.
The worship of the Hung🅺 Kings, closely related to the ancestral worshiptraditions of most Vietnamese families, was recognised as part of theIntangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2012./.
The Hung Kings Temple Festival 2023 and the Culture and Tourism Week of Ancestral Land 2023 kicked off in the northern province of Phu Tho on April 21.
A festival to honour and showcase Vietnam’s UNESCO-recognised intangible cultural heritages of humanity is underway in the northern province of Phu Tho from April 22 to 24, as part of the local 2023 Hung Kings Temple Festival and Culture and Tourism Week of Ancestral Land.
The Vietnamese Embassy in Canada on April 23 hosted a ceremony to commemorate the death anniversary of Hung Kings, the legendary founders of the nations, contributing to maintaining the cultural identity and educating the Vietnamese community especially young people, about the national tradition.
A ceremony was held in the northern mid-land province of Phu Tho on April 25 to commemorate the legendary ancestors of Vietnam, Father Lac Long Quan and Mother Au Co.
PM Pham Minh Chinh highlighted how Vietnam's revolutionary press has continuously evolved and strengthened over the past century, affirming its role as a sharp and vital political, cultural, and ideological weapon serving the Fatherland and the people in the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party.

Today, the press for foreign service has evolved into a distinct, irreplaceable force, bridging Vietnam with the world and portraying a nation that is stable, peace-loving, and fully integrated into the international community.
At a review conference held on June 21, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Van Sinh praised the province’s scientific, coordinated, and flexible approach. He noted that the early completion reflects the strong commitment of local authorities, the business community, philanthropists, and residents in improving housing conditions for disadvantaged groups.
The VNA delegation, led by General Director Vu Viet Trang, actively participated in the event, engaging in both professional and diplomatic activities.
