Embassy in Japan supporting Vietnamese citizens affected by COVID-19
The Embassy of Vietnam in Japan and the representative office of Vietnam Airlines in the country presented 100 boxes of instant noodles to the Association of Vietnamese Buddhists in Japan on April 22 to support Vietnamese citizens affected by COVID-19.

Tokyo (VNA) - The Embassy of Vietnamin Japan and the representative office of Vietnam Airlines in the country presented100 boxes of instant noodles to the Association of Vietnamese Buddhists inJapan on April 22 to support Vietnamese citizens affected by COVID-19.
Ambassador Vu Hong Namsaid many Vietnamese workers in Japan have lost their jobs after local enterprisessuspended operations. The Embassy, therefore, launcheda campaign to support the Vietnamese community by presenting them with food andessential goods.
Embassy staff havedonated a day’s salary to support Vietnamese workers in Fukushima prefecture wholost their jobs to buy food, he said.
He added that the Embassy will continue coordinating with Vietnamese organisationsin Japan to boost campaigns.
Buddhist nun Thich Tam Tri, President of the Association of VietnameseBuddhists in Japan, thanked the Embassy and the national flag carrier for theirvaluable support.
She said her associationhas worked with the Embassy and other organisations to assist disadvantagedworkers, students, and the unemployed during the COVID-19 outbreak.
On the same day, the Embassy and relevant Vietnamese agencies worked withVietnam Airlines to transport medical supplies and equipment from theVietnamese Government and people to Japanese counterparts.
They also coordinated with relevant Japanese agencies to arrange aflight taking 298 Vietnamese citizens home.
According to the immigrationand residence management department at Japan’s Ministry of Justice, Vietnamese arethe third-largest expatriate community in the country, at an estimated 411,968 as of the end of 2019, a year-on-year increase of 24.5 percent./.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on March 23 sent a letter to his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe, expressing sympathies for the Japanese people over the losses caused by COVID-19 pandemic.
