Last year,the lives of ethnic minorities continued to be improved with theproportion of poor households reducing between 4 and 5 percent. Moresocio-economic infrastructure was built and renovated, with over 97percent of communes having roads and over 84 percent of communes havingaccess to electricity.
So far, 100 percent ofcommunes have been covered by a telephone network. The rate oflocalities accessing radio and television services reached nearly 90 and80 percent, respectively.
Educational andhealthcare systems were expanded with over 70 percent of communalmedical stations having qualified doctors.
Manycultural and sports activities were promoted and preserved, such asethnic cultural, sports and tourism festival in the northwestern,Central Highlands and southern Khmer regions, where there are largeethnic communities.
This year, the Committee forEthnic Minority Affairs will focus on perfecting the Government’s ActionPlan and Ethnic Work Strategy for the 2011- 2020 period to implementthe strategy, amending and supplementing 28 programmes for ethnic andmountainous regions for the 2011 – 2016 period as well as creatingpolicies for officials involved in ethnic work in State managementagencies./.
