EVN Hanoi supports Earth Hour 2018

Hanoi (VNA) - The Electricity ofVietnam of Hanoi (EVN Hanoi) has carried out activities in response to EarthHour 2018, aiming to raise public awareness of energy saving.

According to EVN Hanoi Deputy DirectorGeneral Nguyen Quang Trung, as demand for energy in the capital is on the rise,the corporation has encouraged residents to save power for years.

In 2018, the EVN Hanoi has to date organisedmore than 60 talks, used 3,000 posters and handed out more than 90,000 flyerson saving electricity across the city.

The company’s staff and local families havebeen encouraged to take part in the upcoming Earth Hour event.

The EVN Hanoi plans to switch lights off atpublic places for one hour from 20:30 to 21:30 on March 24.

In response to the Earth Hour 2018 themed “Go More Green”, over 1,000 peoplecame together at the walking and painting events held on the pedestrian streetsaround Hoan Kiem (Returned Sword) Lake in the downtown last weekend.

The events aim to deliver the message: Let’sprotect the environment and use energy effectively towards the sustainabledevelopment of the country.

Earth Hour is the largest social event in the world, which has been observed in7,000 cities of 172 countries and territories.

Together with the capital, Da Nang city, HoChi Minh City and other cities and provinces across the country will turn offthe lights from 20:30-21:30 on March 24. The event is held by the Ministry ofIndustry and Trade with support from the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), HanoiBeer, Alcohol and Beverage Joint Stock Company and Daikin Air ConditioningVietnam Joint Stock Company. - VNA

Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sensing to monitor seawater qual𝔍ity

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.

Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycling, reu𝔍se, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
