The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) group has pledged to ensure stable andsafe supply of electricity for production and consumption needs in June,the peak month of the dry season.
The groupforecast that with hot spells hitting many areas across the country,total power demand may reach 423 million kWh per day. Therefore, EVNwill have all coal- and gas-fired electric power plants run at fullcapacity in order to meet the demand.
At the same time, the group will intensify communication campaigns to promote the economical use of power.
According to the EVN’s statistics, total commercial electricity outputin the first five months of this year stood at nearly 49.3 billion kWh,an increase of 8.85 percent from the same period last year. More thanhalf of the power output (54.1 percent) was consumed by the industrialand construction sector, while domestic households, trade and serviceused 34.9 percent and agricultural sector, 1.6 percent.
Businesses have continuously lodged complaints with the government andlocal authorities in recent years, claiming that power cuts have had adetrimental effect on Vietnam’s investment climate.
In late April, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai ordered the powerindustry to find ways to supply sufficient electricity for the publicand enterprises this year.-VNA
