Hanoi (VNA) – Electricity Vietnam (EVN) has beenoperating clean energy and lighting systems across Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoand nearby DK1 platform since August 2017 despite multiple challenges.

This forms part of the State-run group’s efforts to expandpower supply and boost socio-economic development in rural, mountainous and island areas.

Truong Sa archipelago consists of many islands and islets spanning across a vast area of waters, making it very challenging for the island district to gain access to electricity.

Despite such, under the direction of the Government, EVNhas been making all possible efforts to keep the clean power and lightingsystems on the islands running in a bid to improve the islanders’ livingstandards and reinforce the country’s defence capacity so as to safeguard its sovereignty over sea and islands.

The company has carried out regular maintenance and repair to the islands’ power network to ensure interrupted power supply.

It has also presented gifts to people andsoldiers stationed on the islands and raised donations for the charitable fundnamed “Supporting Truong Sa.”

By the end of 2021, EVN has heavily invested thousands of billions of VND to ensureadequate power supply for 11 island districts nationwide, including Van Don, CoTo (Quang Ninh), Cat Hai (Hai Phong), Ly Son (Quang Ngai), Phu Quy (BinhThuan), Con Dao (Ba Ria-Vung Tau), Phu Quoc, Kien Hai (Kien Giang), Con Co (QuangTri), and Truong Sa (Khanh Hoa)./.
