Hanoi (VNA) – Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) recently said it plans to plant 12,859 hectares of forest to compensate for losses in coverage from the building of 18 hydropower plants nationwide.

Accordingly, three plants in the central region have finished replacing their forests. The other 14 hydropower projects have provided capital for localities to plant and look after the forest during the first year.

The replanting is aimed at making up for forest areas lost due to the hydropower plants, developing protective forests and preventing erosion.

The EVN’s efforts follow Resolution No 62/2013/QH13 issued on November 27 2013 by the National Assembly and the Government’s Resolution No 11/NQ-CP dated February 18, 2014 on strengthening the management, investment and operation of hydropower projects.

Aside from afforestation, the group has also paid trillions of VND annually in forest environmental fees.

Since the beginning of this year, over🤪 4 trillion VND (177 million USD) has been paid to localities where it has hydropower plants.-VNA

Vietnam ramps up💙 plastic waste recycling, reuse,♏ treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
