Exhibition honours General Vo Nguyen Giap

Over 200 images and objects related to late General Vo Nguyen Giap will be featured at an exhibition hosted by the Vietnam Military History Museum on October 3.

Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - Over 200 images and objects related to late General Vo Nguyen Giap willbe featured at an exhibition hosted by the Vietnam Military History Museum onOctober 3.

The "DaiTuong Vo Nguyen Giap voi Chien Khu Viet Bac" (General Vo Nguyen Giap andNorthernmost Vietnam Base) exhibitionaims to honour the significant contribution of the General in the nationalliberation, construction and protection, particularly during the period whenthe General was living and working in the Northernmost Vietnam Base. This waswhen he took crucial decisions that contributed to the national victory in theresistance war against the French.

It is alsoconsidered a tribute to the late commander-in-chief of the Vietnamese People’s Army,commemorating his 5th death anniversary, which falls on October 4.

The images andobjects are displayed in three main categories: Northernmost Vietnam Base – TheCradle of Vietnam’s Revolution; General Vo Nguyen Giap From Northernmost VietnamBase till the Day of Complete Victory; and People’s General.

The exhibition is jointly organisedby the Vietnam Military History Museum and the Departments of Culture, Sportsand Tourism of the three northern provinces of Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang and LangSon.

The Vietnam Military History Museum is located at No 28A Dien Bien Phu Street, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi.

General Vo NguyenGiap (1911-2013) was a Vietnamese general and politician who is considered oneof the greatest military strategists of the 20th century. He first gainedprominence as the military leader of the Viet Minh resistance against theJapanese occupation of Vietnam andwas a crucial military commander in two wars: the French Resistance War (1946-1954)and the American War (1955-1975).

He made greatcontributions in a number of historically significant battles: Lang Son (1950),Hoa Binh (1951–1952), Dien Bien Phu (1954), the Tet Offensive in Hue (1968),the Easter Offensive in Hanoi (1972) and the final HoChi Minh Campaign to liberate Sai Gon (1975).-VNS/VNA

Vietnam re-ele༺cted to 2005 UNESCO Convention’s Intergovernmental Committee

This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee. The outcome shows the trust and recognition that member states have given Vietnam for its efforts and achievements in carrying out and promoting the Convention, as well as for its active role, strong standing, and growing credibility at UNESCO.

Exhibition features President H💞o Chi Minh as founder of Vietnam’s revolutionary press

The exhibition showcases more than 100 valuable documents and artifacts, divided into two main parts: “Journalist Nguyen Ai Quoc – Ho Chi Minh” and “President Ho Chi Minh – Founder and Mentor of Vietnamese Revolutionary Press.” This is an opportunity to recall the late leader’s journalism journey and affirm his exceptional role in founding and guiding the revolutionary press in Vietnam.
