According to Hoang Van Chung from the Institute for ReligiousStudies, to avoid disagreements among people of different religions, itis necessary to generate mutual understanding and respect between them,as well as with secular groups. Improved education is required toimprove this, he said.

He also declared thatextremism must first be tackled with non-violent solutions, and calledon safe locations to be made available to religious groups holdingtalks.

Bui Thanh Ha, permanent Vice Chairman ofthe Government’s Committee for Religious Affairs, stated thatVietnam promises freedom of religion to all citizens and strictlyprohibits religious discrimination.-VNA
