Festival looks to promote southern Khmer ethnic culture

The 6th Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival of the Khmer ethnic people in southern Vietnam will commence on November 27 in Hau Giang province.
The 6th Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival of the Khmer ethnicpeople in southern Vietnam will commence on November 27 in HauGiang province.

The three-day event aims to honourand promote the culture of the Khmer people to domestic andinternational friends, said Chairman of the provincial People’sCommittee Tran Cong Chanh.

It will also contributeto building the cultural life, modernising rural areas, and developingtourism products in the province and the Mekong Delta region in general,he added.

A wide range of activities such as folkgames, art performances, a food fair, and a workshop on tourismpotential will be held during the festival, which will see theparticipation of 12 southern cities and provinces.

Vietnam ’s Khmer people mainly live in the southwestern region andworship at more than 453 Khmer pagodas.-VNA
