Dong Thap (VNA) – The final segments of Vam Cong bridge in theMekong Delta province of Dong Thap were connected on September 29.

The 2.9 kilometre bridge is the longest bridge in the Central Mekong DeltaRegion Connectivity project. It is the second bridge spanning the Hau River,connecting Lap Vo district of Dong Thap province and Thot Not district of CanTho city.

Built by the Cuu Long Corporation for Investment, Development and ProjectManagement of Infrastructure (Cuu Long CIPM), it is a 24.5 metre widecable-stayed bridge which sits 37.5 metres above the Hau River’s surface.

With an investment of over 7.3 trillion VND (321.2 million USD) sourced fromofficial development assistance of the Republic of Korea and Vietnam’scorresponding capital, the bridge is designed to have four lanes for motorisedvehices and two others for non-motorised ones. It allows maximum speed of 80kilometres per hour.

Upon completion, the bridge will make significant contributions to improvingroad traffic network, boosting social and economic development andconsolidating defence and security in the Mekong Delta region and key economiczones in the southern region.

Together with Cao Lanh bridge and Lo Te-Rach Soi project, Vam Cong bridge willshorten travelling time to Ho Chi Minh City to meet increasing transport demandand ease congestion on national road No.1-VNA
