Hanoi (VNA) – The University of Languages and International Studies under Vietnam National University, Hanoi (ULIS – VNU) will launch a specialised programme in teaching Vietnamese as a foreign language in 2025, marking the first training course of its kind in Vietnam.

The programme, part of the Vietnamese Language and Culture major, is open to both Vietnamese and foreign students, with an initial enrollment quota of 50.

According to a ULIS representative, while several universities offer courses in Vietnamese and Vietnamese culture, this is the first to focus specifically on methods of teaching Vietnamese as a foreign language.

The curriculum integrates language and culture with practical experiences, including teaching internships and applied studies in Vietnamese history, geography, and society.

For foreign applicants, a Vietnamese proficiency level of 4 or higher, which is based on Vietnam’s six-level framework, is required, with graduates expected to reach level 5.

Vietnamese students will also study a second foreign language, including Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or English and are expected to graduate with B2-level proficiency in the selected language.

The programme aims to produce a qualified workforce of Vietnamese language teachers and professionals equipped with strong linguistic and intercultural skills. Graduates are expected to pursue careers in teaching, translation, tourism, corporate training, and media.

ULIS considers the launch part of its implementation of the Politburo’s Conclusion No. 91 o🍌n fundamental reforms in education, includin🌄g promoting the Vietnamese language and culture abroad./.
