Five Vietnamese businesses among top 500 Asia-Pacific retailers

Five Vietnamese businesses including supermarket chains Saigon Co.op and BigC, Nguyen Kim Trading JSC, Saigon Jewelry Co. Ltd. and Mobile World JSC have made the Top 500 retailers in the Asia-Pacific region 2014.

Ho Chi Minh City-based Saigon Co.op won the 2014 Best ofthe Best Award for being among the top 10 retailers in the Asia-Pacificregion. It is the first Vietnamese retailer to win the award, accordingto the company’s Marketing Director Vo Hoang Anh.

Inaddition, the Co.opmart operator won the gold award for the bestretailer in Vietnam earlier this year, marking 11 years in a row itwas honoured with the title.

Besides the Co.opmartsupermarket chain, Saigon Co.op also operates Co.op Food Stores, theHTVCo.op Shopping Channel, Sense City trade centre in Can Tho cityand the Co.opXtraplus Thu Duc hypermarket in Ho Chi Minh City. Thecompany earned more than 1.1 billion USD in revenue last year.

Another winner, Mobile World JSC (The Gioi Di Dong), has been named inthe Top 500 retailers for the five consecutive years.

The firm boasted a total of 219 mobile phone stores across the country with 395 million USD in revenue by the end of 2013.

Launched in 2004 by the Retail Asia Publishing, the annual Top 500Retailer Award have selected winners based on surveys of retailers in 14regional economies, including Australia, China, Hong Kong, India,Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore,Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.-VNA
