Flood relief aid continues flowing in

Governments of New Zealand and the US, and Honda-Vietnam have been sending aid to victims of Typhoons Ketsana and Mirinae in the central and Central Highlands regions.

Governments of New Zealand and the US,and Honda-Vietnam have been sending aid to victims of Typhoons Ketsanaand Mirinae in the central and Central Highlands regions.

The 370,000 USD in aid from New Zealand was channelled to the VietnamRed Cross through the New Zealand International Aid and DevelopmentAgency (NZAID) in Hanoi on November 16.

Ambassador Heather Riddell of New Zealand said at a ceremony markingthe assistance that her country has been funding development programmesin Vietnam for years, focusing on agriculture, education andhealthcare.

New Zealand has set up long term cooperation with the central provinceof Binh Dinh and the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai , which werealso hard hit by typhoons Ketsana and Mirinae recently.

Also on November 16, the US Embassy in Vietnam announced in a pressrelease that the U.S. government, through the U.S. Agency forInternational Development (USAID), will providing 250,000 USD to theInternational Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies toaid victims affected by flooding from Typhoon Mirinae.

This support to communities in Vietnam ’s central provinces of BinhDinh, Khanh Hoa, and Phu Yen brings the total U.S. government supportfor typhoon victims in Vietnam this year to 1 million USD.

The latest contribution will fund basic emergency relief items such asblankets, water containers, cooking pots, mosquito nets, soap, andwater purification tablets to more than 28,000 people who have beenbadly affected by the typhoon.

The Vietnam Red Cross reported that it has so far received over 7million USD in relief aid from the international community for floodvictims.

Honda Vietnam is among the major domestic donors, with two relief aid packages so far of over 560 million VND in total.

The Vietnam-Japan auto making joint-venture said it will send staff tothe flood-hit provinces of Phu Yen, Binh Dinh and Khanh Hoa to hand outsupplies to the victims from Nov. 19-21.

🥃 The mission will continue in the Central Highlands provinces of Gia Laiand Dak Lak and the central provinces of Ninh Thuan, Thua Thien-Hue andQuang Tri./.
