Floods in northern Vietnam cause 41 million USD in damage
Floods caused by heavy rains from August 1-6 in Dien Bien, Yen Bai, Son La, and Cao Bang provinces left 68 people died, injured or missing and caused economic losses amounting to 41.3 million USD.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has ordered authorities of northern mountainous provinces along with relevant agencies and ministries to augment efforts in response to torrential rains and floods wreaking havoc in the region over the last few days.
A landslide triggered by prolonged rains over the past days killed a man in Ron Ru village, Tam Kim commune, Nguyen Binh district of the northern mountainous province of Cao Bang on August 6.
Trade unions of the Presidential Office and the Government’s Office have raised funds in support of north-western provinces hit by the recent floods and landslides.
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.
