At least four people were killed and 10 others were injured in an explosion in Isabela City, Basilan, southern Philippines on October 1. The blast reportedly targeted a city’s official delegation.
Local police said the improvised explosive device exploded at about 1:10 pm (local time) in front of the house of Mayor Cherrylyn Santos-Akbar. An initial investigation revealed that the bomb was planted in a tricycle cab parked along the street, exploding as the convoy of Vice Mayor Abdulbaki Ajibon passed and hitting its back-up vehicle.
Among the victims were two of Vice Mayor Ajibon’s escorts and a bystander. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the bombing.-VNA
