Fourteen fishermen in distress saved off coastal waters of Binh Thuan province

Hanoi (VNA) – A German-flaggedcargo ship fished 14 fishermen in distress out of waters off the coast of Binh Thuan province in the south central region around noon on November 20.

The fishermen, originally from Binh Dinh province, were rescued by a ship named Barzan en route from China to Singapore, accordingto the Binh Dinh People’s Committee.

TheNational Committee for Incident and Natural Disaster Response, Search andRescue sent coast guard vessel CSB 6007 to receive the fishermen, which arenow in stable health.

According to initial information, theirfishing vessel, coded BD 98268 TS, broke up and sank amid strong winds at 3:30amon November 20, in an area about 92 nautical miles northeast of Binh Thuan’s PhuQuy Island. The crew members clung to the floating parts from the original vessel to survive.

Notifiedof the incident, the Binh Dinh People’sCommittee asked the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Preventionand Control, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the High Commandof Coast Guard Region 3, and the Vietnam People’s Navy to quickly send personaland equipment to save the fishermen. It also deployed to a team to coordinatewith Binh Thuan authorities in the search and rescue.

Vesselsoperating near the area of the incident were also asked to help with the search and rescue mission./.
