Friendship association fosters 25 years of Vietnam-China ties

Can Tho (VNA) – The Vietnam-China FriendshipAssociation (VCFA)’s chapter in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho celebrated its25th founding anniversary on September 25.

The association has worked along the lines ofpeople-to-people diplomacy, contributing to the improvement of theVietnam-China relationship, stated its President Ngo Quoc Tuan as part of hisspeech at the ceremony.

He said the VCFA in Can Tho has organised regular activitiesinvolving Chinese delegations, including exchanges, cooperation conferences,tourism promotion events, as well as joint economic, cultural, and charityprojects.

Tuan pointed to some of the larger events, such as meetingswith Vietnamese and Chinese patriotic personalities and the Vietnam-Chinapeople’s forum, noting that they have created opportunities for the public toincrease mutual understanding, present their aspirations for peace, push formultilateral cooperation, and strengthen the peaceful and stable bilateralrelations.

Lauding the association’s achievements in the past, ViceChairman of the municipal People’s Committee Le Van Tam noted that Can Tho andChina are yet to fully exploit their full potential for trade and investmentinteraction.

Tam suggested the local VCFA collaborate with relevantagencies and sectors to attract Chinese investment in the city and the ChineseConsulate-General’s support for exchange activities.

Le Thi Thanh Giang, President of the Vietnam Union ofFriendship Associations’ Can Tho chapter, recommended the association improveits orientations, performance, and communications work, as well as organisemore trips for local trade and tourism promotion delegations. –VNA
