Hanoi (VNA) – Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Do Van Chien received Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam He Wei in Hanoi on August 20.
Chien told his guest that the upcoming celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2, 1945 – 2025) mark an important milestone for Vietnam to reflect on its heroic revolutionary journey and advance toward a new era of development. It is also an occasion for both nations to recall the historic years when the two Parties, countries, and peoples stood shoulder to shoulder in their struggles for national independence and socialist construction.
He spoke highly of the fine development of Vietnam–China relations in recent years, particularly the frequent high-level exchanges, strengthened political trust, and enhanced cooperation in various fields. Chien also highlighted breakthroughs in transport connectivity, especially the progress in standard-gauge railway links, along with vibrant local-to-local cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.
The senior official praised the fruitful collaboration between the VFF and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), recommending that the ambassador continue to support closer cooperation between the two bodies at both central and local levels, particularly in border provinces.
He also called for close coordination in organising high-level delegation exchanges, promoting substantive and mutually beneficial economic–trade, investment, and transport connectivity projects, as well as expanding cooperation in science and technology, which are expected to become a new growth driver. Chien stressed strengthening cultural, educational, and tourism ties, as well as effectively implementing the Vietnam – China Year of Humanistic Exchange 2025 and activities marking the 75th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties.

Ambassador He affirmed that the countries have achieved outstanding socio-economic development results in recent years. He expressed his wish to work closely with the VFF Central Committee to help concretise the common perceptions reached by the high-ranking leaders of the two Parties and States, while promoting exchanges, cooperation, and mutual understanding between Vietnamese and Chinese peoples./.
This grassroots synergy — powered by digital platforms, complementary industries and cultural affinity — has fueled a robust partnership between the two countries. China has remained Vietnam's largest trading partner for over two decades, while Vietnam is China's top trading partner within ASEAN. Bilateral trade exceeded 260 billion USD in 2024.
The first joint training exercise between the ground forces of Vietnam and China aims to enhance exchange of border management experiences while deepening the two militaries' practical cooperation.
