The Vietnam Administration of Forestry (VNFOREST) on September 9 launched the “Conservation and Sustainable Use of Forest Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services” project funded by the German Government.

Accordingly, the project will be implemented from 2015 to 2018 with a budget of 4.95 million EUR (5.5 million USD), of which, 4.5 million EUR (5 million USD) is sourced by non-refundable aid from the German government via the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).

According to project’s Director Tran The Lien, the project aims to create the preconditions to improve legal frameworks and strengthen State agencies’s capacity of management and implementation of initiatives on forestry.

It also supports the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and ecosystem services in Vietnam’s forests at the central level.

The project is expected to contribute to the country’s target of 2.4 million hectares of special-use forests and help manage efficiently 176 special forest areas, including 34 national parks, said Cao Chi Cong, Deputy General Director of the VNFOREST.
