Hanoi (VNA) – The Prime Minister has instructed the Ministry of Finance toalloc♎ate over 10,400 tonnes of rice from the national reserves for 12localities to help the needy on the ꧑occasion of the lunar New Year festival.
Accordingly,8,013 tonnes of rice will be delivered to Yen Bai, Cao Bang, Ha Nam, Tuyen Quang,Lao Cai provinces in the north, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Quang Tri in the centralregion, Dak Nong, Kon Tum in the Central Highlands and Ninh Thuan in the south. Inparticular, the central province of Quang Ngai will receive 2,419 tonnes ofrice, to be distributed to poor households and flood victims. QuangNgai was among localities hard hit by floods in December 2016. The floodskilled 10 people in the province, leaving four missing and inundated 1,800houses. More than 700 hectares of rice fields and over 3,500 hectares of cropwere damaged.-VNA Theprovincial People’s Committees of respective provinces are responsible forreceiving and promptly distributing the rice to the people.-VNA
Nearly 6,900 tonnes of rice will be provided for the central provinces of Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Quang Binh to support people affected by storms and floods this year.
The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Labour has pledged to provide 300 tonnes of rice in aid to the central province of Quang Ngai which was hard hit by flooding in early December.
The central province of Binh Dinh will distribute rice aid to families affected by natural disasters this year, with an average 15kg of rice for each person.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on December 24 decided to allocate 2,000 tonnes of rice to the south central province of Binh Dinh, which has suffered heavy losses due to recent floods.
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.
The festival highlighted the contributions and robust development of Vietnam's revolutionary press over the past century while promoting press products and showcasing the creativity of Vietnamese journalists.
