Vietnam’s top chess player Le Quang Liem has leaped ten places to 38thin the latest rankings by the World Chess Federation (FIDE).
The outcome was attributed to his recent triumph at the Pan-AmericanIntercollegiate Team Chess Championship. As a result, Liem’s Elo ratingwas increased six points from 2,703.
Norwegian chess player Magnus Carlsen (Elo of 2,872) remains at the top of the FIDE world rankings.
Liem is currently the number-one ranked player in Vietnam and 7th in Asia.-VNA
According to the latest FIFA women’s rankings, Vietnam ranked sixth in Asia, behind Japan (8th globally), the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (10th), Australia (15th), China (16th) and the Republic of Korea (21st).
