Hanoi (VNA) - Secretary of the HanoiParty Committee, Hoang Trung Hai visited Catholic dignitaries at the HanoiArchbishop Office on December 23 on the occasion of Christmas.

He extended his greetings to Hanoi’s Archbishop,Phero Nguyen Van Nhon, Catholic dignitaries and followers in Hanoi.

Hai spoke highly of the Catholic community’scontributions to the city’s socio-economic development.

He expressed his hope that the Archbishop and alllocal parishioners will continue building on their achievements, thuscontributing to the national great solidarity and the building of a prosperous anddeveloped capital city.

Archbishop Phero Nguyen Van Nhon affirmed everydiocese and follower have continuously made efforts to contribute to the city’sdevelopment and environment protection.

On the occasion, Hai visited and extended hisgreetings to Nguyen Thi Hang, 52, for her outstanding contribution to localsocial work.

On December 22 and 23, authorities of the south centralBinh Thuan province also extended Christmas wishes to local Catholic andProtestant dignitaries and followers on the occasion of Christmas season 2016.

Vice Secretary of the provincial Party CommitteeHuynh Thanh Canh underlined the religious unity in the province and the activecontribution local parishioners have made to the local socio-economicdevelopment.

Local authorities at all levels have always takencare of the legitimate requests of local religious followers and promoted theunity between the religious and non-religious communities to build the nationalgreat solidarity.

Canh expressed his hope that local religiousdignities will continue encouraging parishioners to join local socio-economicdevelopment programmes, including the new-style rural area building and povertyreduction.

On the occasion, delegations of authorities ofthe Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu also visited local Catholic andProtestant dignities and extended Christmas wishes to them and parishioners.

Bac Lieu has over 21,000 Catholic followers,accounting for 2.4 percent of the province’s population.-VNA
