Hai Phong (VNA) – The Bac Son – Nam Hai arterial road was open to traffic on May 3 morning, aiming to connect the east and the westof the northern port city of Hai Phong.

The construction of the road began in December 2013 as partof the Hai Phong urban transport development project that had a totalinvestment of 251.55 million USD, including over 175.09 million USD in official development assistance (ODA) from the World Bank (WB) and nearly 76.46million USD sourced from local budget.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Vice Chairman of themunicipal People’s Committee Nguyen Xuan Binh thanked the governments ofVietnam and Japan as well as the WB’s close and effective cooperation formaking the building of the road possible.

He hoped that the collaboration between Hai Phong and the WB would grow further with the city being a trustworthy and effective partner.

The project is expected to cut travel time between theeastern district of Hai An and the western district of An Duong and improveurban accessibility among the inner districts of Kien An, Le Chan and Ngo Quyen.

The project also includes the construction of critical sectionsof road infrastructure to facilitate future city development, improvement ofpublic bus services and capacity building in transport./.
