Hanoi (VNA)ꦑ – Hanoi again claimed the title of Vietnam’s fastest city for fixed broadband in July, averaging 331.41 megabits per second for downloads, according to i-Speed, a network measurement platform operated by the Vietnam Internet Network Information Centre under the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST).

Nationwide, fixed broadband speeds reached an all-time high, averaging 258.28 Mbps for downloads and 195.34 Mbps for uploads, a 2.6-fold increase from July 2024. Other major cities, including Hai Phong, Can Tho, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City, also reported consistent gains. Viettel solidified its dominance among providers for the second consecutive month, posting average fixed broadband speeds of 287.09 Mbps for downloads and 225.53 Mbps for uploads. CMC Telecom surged past VNPT to take second place with 282.99 Mbps downloads and 271.69 Mbps uploads, while VNPT trailed in third at 238.8 Mbps and 180.95 Mbps, respectively.
Mobile broadband also hit record levels, with nationwide averages of 83.52 Mbps for downloads and 29.55 Mbps for uploads. The 5G networks achieved their best performance since commercial rollout, averaging 447.03 Mbps for downloads and 99.26 Mbps for uploads. Viettel led the 5G pack with 483 Mbps downloads and 106 Mbps uploads, followed by VNPT at 315 Mbps and 52 Mbps, and MobiFone at 211 Mbps and 38 Mbps. Da Nang topped city-level 5G performance with a blazing 568.49 Mbps, nearly 1.5 times faster than second-placed Hai Phong.
Viettel’s network, with over 7,000 5G base stations, boasts the widest coverage in Vietnam. The carrier ranked third globally for overall mobile speed in the first half of 2025, according to US-based Ookla, which runs the Speedtest platform. VinaPhone, meanwhile, secured second place worldwide for 5G speed, trailing only the UAE’s e&. Nguyen Phong Nha, Deputy Director General of the MoST’s Authority of Telecommunications, credited the surge to strategic spectrum licensing that expanded 4G and 5G coverage, the shutdown of 2G services, and the ongoing phase-out of 3G, which has freed up resources to improve the user experience. Ookla’s global rankings derive from millions of user-initiated tests, calculated using its Speed Score formula based on download speed (70%), upload speed (20%), and latency (10%)./.
