Hanoi has second pedestrians’ space

A new pedestrian street, Trinh Cong Son street in Nhat Tan ward of Hanoi’s Tay Ho district near the West Lake, was launched in the evening of May 11, offering additional entertainment spaces for locals and visitors.

Hanoi (VNA) – A new pedestrian street, Trinh Cong Son street inNhat Tan ward of Hanoi’s Tay Ho district near the West Lake, was launched inthe evening of May 11, offering additional entertainment spaces for locals andvisitors.

The street, named after Trinh Cong Son (1939-2001), one of the greatestsongwriters of modern Vietnam, is designed to be a venue of arts and streetfood performance. Its opening was postponed several times for better preparations.

Along with the street, the pedestrianspace also contains part of Alley 431 Au Co street and Alley 612 Lac Long Quanstreet.

It will open for walkers from 7.30 pm onFriday, Saturday and Sunday. There are 60 kiosks planned for the street butonly 15 will be opened for the pilot programme which will last until the end of2018.

Addressing the opening, Vice Chairman ofthe Hanoi People’s Committee Ngo Van Quy said that the second pedestrian routeof Hanoi aims to attract more visitors by offering  new cultural, art and entertainment spaces.

The first pedestrianspace of Hanoi is streets around Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter, which arepopular destinations for Hanoians and tourists.

The walking areaaround Hoan Kiem lake spreads over 11 streets, which are Dinh Tien Hoang, LeLai, Le Thach, Dinh Le, Nguyen Xi, Trang Tien (from Ngo Quyen to Dinh TienHoang), Hang Khay, Le Thai To, Hang Trong (from street Joseph’s Cathedral to LeThai To), Nha Tho and the Cathedral square. The streets are closed to trafficfrom Friday night through Sunday mid-night.

It is linked to thepedestrian streets in the Old Quarter include Hang Buom, Ma May, Dao Duy Tu,Hang Giay, Luong Ngoc Quyen, Ta Hien, Hang Ngang, Hang Dao, Hang Duong and DongXuan.-VNA
