Hanoi is set to spend nearly 3.7 trillion VND (165.8 million USD) on the construction of a new water plant using surface water from the Hong (Red) River in Lien Hong commune, Dan Phuong district to meet the increasing demand for clean water in the city. The project is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of this year and become operational in the first quarter of 2021, said Le Van Duc, Director of the municipal Department of Construction at a press conference held on October 27.
He highlighted that it is necessary to build additional high-capacity surface water plants to serve the need for water until 2030, given that underground water resources are becoming exhausted. He added that once in use, the plant will supply water for three suburban districts in west Hanoi and at least four inner-city districts, including Nam Tu Liem and Bac Tu Liem.
The 20.5 hectare plant is expected to provide 150,000 cubic metres of clean water a day in the first phase of its construction (2015-2018). The second stage is scheduled to be finished by 2020 and will raise the capacity to 300,000 cubic meters a day. The quality of the Red River’s surface water has been studied over the past decades to produce clean water, and the plant’s technology line is designed to ensure water treatment during both dry and flood seasons.-VNA

Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recyclin🍸g, reuse, trea💖tment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
