Hanoi readies for 10th ASEAN Skills Competition

The6-day event running from October 23- 28 is expected to draw 300competitors aged under 22. It demonstrates commitments of Vietnam andASEAN to developing qualified human resources as the ASEAN EconomicCommunity draws closer.

The board reported that betweenOctober 15 and 22, equipment and machinery servicing competitions willbe installed and have a test run.

Competitions will take place from October 24-26 and the closing ceremony will be held on November 25.
A sideline programme themed “A nation a school” will be held onOctober 22 with the participation of 10 junior high schools in thecapital. It will have job orientation sessions to be joined bycompetition delegates.

City tours and visits to the traditionalBat Trang ceramic village, Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam, the first universityof Vietnam, Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, and Hanoi’s Old Quarter werearranged for the delegates.

Vietnam organised its nationalskill competition in May, three months earlier than the time when theprevious ones took place, selecting 51 from the best 77 performers forthe ASEAN competition.

The country first hosted the ASEANcompetition in 2004, topping the medal tally with 13 of the 18 goldmedals. At the 9th event in Indonesia in 2012, it came second, with 44workers competing in 22 skills.-VNA

“I Love My Country” media campaign launched

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
